We’re launching a newsletter. We’re calling it Legally Speaking.
The idea is simple: a brief, periodic note from us to our clients and friends of the firm on the things we think are worth knowing — new estate planning developments, changes in tax law, updates to New York’s probate procedures, things small business owners should keep an eye on, occasional notes about how we work and why. We’d rather write something useful once a quarter than email you about nothing every month. So we’ll keep it occasional and we’ll keep it short.
The newsletter will come from us, not a marketing department. It will sound like us — sometimes pointed, occasionally amused, hopefully informative. If you’ve worked with us, you’ll recognize the voice.
What we’ll cover.
Estate planning developments. Federal and New York estate tax thresholds and proposals, changes to power of attorney requirements, updates to advance directive forms, court rulings that affect probate. Plain English where possible.
Small business law. Compliance episodes that affect closely-held businesses, contract issues we see come up repeatedly, the kinds of things that small business clients ask us about regularly. The Corporate Transparency Act is a recent example.
Notes from the practice. Occasionally a piece about how we work, why we make particular recommendations, or what we’ve learned from a year of estate planning conversations. (We’ve been in practice since 2003 and continue to be surprised by something almost every week.)
About the firm.
Daniel B. Faizakoff P.C. is a boutique law firm with offices in New York City and Stamford, Connecticut, focused on estate planning and administration, probate, and small business and corporate law. Dan founded the firm in 2003 after years of practice at larger firms in the city. The firm has been recognized as Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent — the highest rating awarded by Martindale, based on confidential peer review by other attorneys — for many years running. Dan has also been selected to the New York Metro Super Lawyers list, an honor extended to roughly the top 5% of attorneys in the region, and named to Top Attorneys of North America for 2018-2019.
Beyond the recognition, the firm’s reason for being is steadier: a deliberately small practice, run by lawyers who actually know the clients, doing careful estate planning and small business counseling that doesn’t require a hundred-page engagement letter. The newsletter is part of how we stay in touch with the people we work for.
How to sign up.
Scroll to the bottom of any page on our website — there’s a sign-up form for the newsletter. Or reach out directly and we’ll add you. We won’t share your address, won’t flood your inbox, and won’t pass the list to anyone.
Quick FAQ.
How often will the newsletter come out? Periodically — usually quarterly, more often when something significant changes (a tax law revision, a major court decision). We don’t send filler.
Is it for clients only? No. Anyone interested in the topics we cover is welcome.
Can I unsubscribe? Easily. Every issue includes an unsubscribe link.
What kinds of topics will you take requests for? Most of them. If there’s a topic you’d like us to cover, let us know. Some of our most-read pieces have started as client questions.
